I must admit change in my views about Bal Thackrey with age .
When I was young idealist , I disliked Thackrey brand of politics which I considered divisive and anti national .
His regionalism and isolating minorities ie South Indians , Gujratis , Marwaris and muslims appeared very reprehensible and irresponsible . But he was not an illiterate person . He was like Nehru who knew the pulse of people, was very well read but moved nation away from hinduism due to his convictions . Otherwise Nehru’s patriotism was never in doubt . Bal Thackrey was more like Patel( not as great and with many vices) by convictions . He was a devout hindu ( not its pseudo secular appology) . He stood like a rock for preserving traditional hindu ways of life .His questionable methods would have never met GANDHIJI’S TESTS ,but possibly were a compulsion .

My posting in Africa , Idi Amin’s expulsion of Asians but most of all rape of Assam by Bangladeshis immigrants and happenings in Punjab made me apprehensive of abilities of hindus to ever unite and face challenge of survival.
Bal Thackrey became the sole defender ,hope and spokesman of the traditional hindu views of utter dislike of Valentine day , reverse discrimination in all government matters due to vote bank politics , protecting hindus in communal riots , opposing ‘ साड्डा लाहौर ‘ gang .
Infact I am now convinced that death of caste system has made hindus very vulnerable . The poor but proud, honest and highly educated Brahmin and Poor but very honour concious and valiant Kshatriyas are very much needed in our current corrupt society . Hinduism could survive thousand years of slavery because of them .
Bal Thackrey would be a valiant Kshtriya . He protected the film industry from the excesses of Dawood gang . as Udit Narain said , we can breath freely because of him .Many in film industry will say the same . Some money paid for Chowkidari is not the issue it is getting principled peace of mind which Gulshan Kumar did not get . He could publicly support Sanjay Dutt whom Congress could not support inspite of his loyal MP father .
Many south Indians , who were targeted by him rightly hate him . But having seen the consequences of virtual Bihari take over of Delhi University sidelining local dehiites , I realise that constitutional restrictions on free movement are also needed . We must realise that we cannot make a set of people like Assamese lose their identity by migration . If large states like UP or Bihar fail nation cannot face the dire consequence of mass migration . There is need to review the abandonment of article 356.Small states like Delhi with a handful of colleges cannot meet the influx of large population .So is true of other states.
This late realisation made me tolearant of his vices . Shiv Sena may for many be a bunch of committed Robin hood type thugs who also are highly committed and patriotic as demonstrated in very determined continuence of Amarnath Yatra after terrorist attacks by Shiv Sainks or visibly opposing साड्डा लाहौर गैंग excesses . Our Vote Bank Chasing politicians have destroyed India not Bal Thackreys .If anything Bal Thackrey and Shiv Sena gave a voice to traditional Indian.

So with age I have also realised that perfect politicians don’t exist .
With in the inevitable and tolerable error band Modi and Thackrey had maximum qualities which nation will miss if they are not around .

With none other left willing to publicly and proudly defend them , hindus will become very unprotected and vulnerable by Bal Thackrey’s absence .

May his tribe increase .
